Caterham announce SP300-R…..
The 2011 season hasn’t even started yet but people have been clamoring to start talking about 2012 plans and Caterhams new SP300-R. Powered by a supercharged Ford Duractec 2.0L engine producing 300BHP, coupled to a chassis developed in conjunction with Lola with full aero and F3 slicks you have one very, very serious racer.
0-60 time is sub 3 seconds going onto an estimated 180+mph, the SP300-R will add another run on the Caterham Motorsport ladder which starts with the hugely popular Academy. The series will also attract racers looking to make a name for themselves in a single make formula where having deep pockets doesn’t guarantee you success. With the design goals of being cheaper to buy for equivalent performance and more cost effective to race the SP300-R should attract drivers from series such as Radical and V de V to name only two. The plan is to run on the support bill for F3/British GT which should see some excellent circuits and meetings for those looking to progress further in motorsport.
Caterham have a proven record of providing successful, close one make racing. Caterham can produce 25 cars in 2011, and as of today nearly 10 had deposits against them. Impressive sales from a car that went on sale on Thursday……
What about me….yes please, would love one in Porsche Viper Green…….will have to wait and see. I have a test drive planned but a few hurdles to jump before I can put pen to paper……..watch this space.
